Agree, the japanese guy is a great player. Really got Ritchies style down to a tee. I wonder what pickups he using. They sound like 69's?
Interesting watching another band do this number. They are obviously a great band.
Our band play this one. There are some great musicians in our band, so I get to harmonise with the keyboardist in the Bach section etc. I normally improvise the solo, so it is different every time. Thats the fun. Sometimes its great, other times just ok. But I like to take the risk! I havent got the memory to be able to play solos note for note. Even the songs where I try to stick more to the record, its just the key licks, with the bits in between being improvised. I dont know how classical players do it - having to play musis note for note every time. I can definately appreciate other guitarists like this guy how can do it. Especially when played with conviction so sounds spontaneous as well.
Thanks for all the links. Its really useful to have links like this.
All the best from England

Since I am sending Bernd copies of the DP MK II and MK III DVD's I have, I scanned the artwork from these to send to him, but I do not mind sharing them with fellow RB forum members: s57.photobucket.com/albums/g219/davida54/Bernd%20Deep%20Purple/It's hard to read the small print so I have increased the resolution..enjoy! blacknight308

The Japanese player, that's Hideaki Nakama. He was in Anthem for a bit, but my friend George Azuma, who is involved with managing the band's affairs, he told me that Hideaki didn't record anything with Anthem. He has some other bands. You can see that here: www.nakama-guitar.com/Pickups are Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounds in bridge and neck, middle pickup Fender of unspecified model, three-way switch, confirmed here (Japanese text only): www.nakama-guitar.com/top.htmlI can read enough of Katakana to see that much. When Dave/Blacknight308 posted the link to the Hideaki videos on the Yngwie forum, I'd commented that I really liked his sound and that I'd like to get a guitar with Quarter Pound pickups. Couple of years later, got one! Thanks, Dave! EDIT: Just noticed, very interesting: Hideaki also uses a Maxon ST-9 Super Tube Screamer... Like Dave, I own a Maxon ST-01 Super Tube Screamer (same pedal, different enclosure). I'll have to try it with the Blackmore Strat.

John how cool is that, in the comments section on that particular You Tube video, does that 1971 Strat look scalloped to you?? Hideaki, is a great player, SSL-4's in bridge and neck I read. Unless it has very shallow graduated Blackmore scallops, I can't see them...can you?? I am excited to learn about the ST-9 or Maxon ST-01 as we have, that is the most awesome pedal ever and I am blessed to have received my mint+ example from Japan through Masa for around just over $200 shipped!! This is my remaining Strat, my beloved 1983 '57 Reissue Blackie, that I ordered new, my beloved '04 YJM is long gone, but I have my Killer SS80 now.. ;D ;D A/B'd it to this one and they were the same weight, but I liked mine better!! Sorry to go off topic, but this is my last new guitar for quite awhile, but worth it.. ;D ;D Here is the Super Tube Screamer John is referring to, it has been used by Gary Moore as well and can dial in any TS of any era, with it's dual op-amp chips and mid boost control!! Here is the Maxon St-09, the Ibanez version commands the most money whereas the Maxon people build the Ibanez pedals and are identical in quality, I actually prefer the Maxon's A Gary Moore pedalboard: This shot is from my beloved Wild Frontier 1987 period: The magic chips: These shots aren't of my pedal just the first few outside ones: The Maxon St-01 I have desired for years and it gives me my much sought after Gary Moore Wild Frontier tone, yet can sound exactly like a vintage TS-08 with the turn of a knob!! Very cool I can't see any scalloping, am I blind or what..lol, also using the vintage bridge as well, not to belabor the point John! You are most welcome and you are a great influence on me as well, you are much too modest about all that you know and have done in the music business!! Thank You!! Thanks for bearing with me as I am off topic slightly..lol blacknight308

Yep, vintage type bridge, there ya go! He must've retrofitted it as that guitar is a '72.
Super Tube Screamer = One of the truly unsung great pedals. I've read Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden has used one too.
