I've gotten mines and already reading it ;D Nice stories from Master Colin and............................... this might disapoint those who doubted about DAWK and his work, [glow=red,2,300]yes[/glow] Colin mentions, that Dawk did the maintenance of Ritchie's Majors as well some work on his guitars and even years later on Jon Lord's gear ! And this happens in the chapter about the RISING recording ! So hopefully, this will close all the debates forever

Tour managers are paid to take over all the none musical and shit stuff so that they( bandmembers) don't have to care about That's the way it was and will be with most of'em and why bands have tour managers We're talking about hard cash business and not about friends playing music together to have some fun. So yes, from our hobby musician point of view your statement is absolutely correct but from the pro side, that's another story and therefore I'll understand but I'm not necessarely ok with these manners.

In his book Hart writes: "After twelve years, I looked at him and he at me in silence, not knowing quite what to do. His face cracked into a broad grin and he extended his hand. I grabbed it, and much to his and my surprise I hugged the old bugger and he hugged me tight. Now this ain't Ritchie I had to known. That boy just was not 'huggy feely' whatsoever. This was a new Ritchie, a wonderful Ritchie"

I can't believe I still haven't but flipped through Hart's book. In the past I would have dropped everything to read such a book.

Btw, I just ordered a second hand copy of Martin Popoff's English Castle Magic. It looks like the prices on that book are really going up.

I kept Colin's book on my night table and every evening by going to bed, I read a couple of pages Now I'm realising, that his book was way too short

It seems that I got to get the book as well. At the moment I have "Heavy Load: the Story of Free" the Free Biographie on my night table and loves reading it. ;D

Its a fantastic read. I read on the outward and return journey to plymouth on the train. It made it a very enjoyable journey. It really shows RB to be a complete twisted bastard genius that seems to have softened in the later years, just as we would have suspected.
when i saw him in Yok recently they even got the baby daughter on stage!

There's been a documentary series on TV here, "How the Brits Rocked America", about British bands in the USA. One part covered the '70s including Deep Purple. They were interviewing Jon Lord. In San Antonio Texas, on their 13th week of the fourth tour of the year(!), Jon and RB were talking while they walked down the corridor in the hotel heading for the gig. Jon realised Ritchie had stopped, he looked back, Ritchie was standing weeping. He asked him what was wrong, Ritchie just said he'd had enough, he wanted to go home.

I remember that the Scorpions played some time ago 300 shows a year, gee. Some people can take it,others don't. Booze & drug problems were and are often the result. Thanks for the nice story Steve
