So they've been announced quite some time ago but nobody seems to have mentioned anything! I went to the Sat gig and had a good time. What are your thoughts on the concerts?

Thanks, Niko

I haven't been to the show because I didn't have the time Tomorrow, I will have my final oral exam and after that I'll listen to the clips of the show . Did you enjoy the show? Which songs did they play? Did they play well or a bit slow due to Ritchie's attitude (once he has said that he has quit fast playing)? Best regards, ritchiefan1982 PS: I agree with slaikkiz that our country is a nice country . However, the last weeks were horrible! It rained all day long! Every single day...

I was at the Bietigheim show and I did enjoy it a lot. I'd never seen Backers before and I knew it would have been my only chance to see him play rock music (yes, I dislike BN) so for me it was greatly emotional. But I have to say that I was not impressed by his playing. I knew it would've been impossible to get close to the 95/97 levels (best Blackmore ever in my opinion) but I was expecting a little bit more. His right hand technique is not there anymore I guess...for example he couldn't do the triplets of HS solo and his notes were not ringing out loud. I think he was a little insecure and feared to do wrong. There have been some highlitghts but his lead playing is pretty much the same (as with BN) and he was not inspired during solos. I think it's due to the fact that he has arthritis (he underwent surgery a couple of months ago) and thererfore hasn't rehearsed/practiced enough. Actually the whole band didn't rehearse enough I think... there were some pretty obvious mistakes. But all in all it was well worth it, I'm still excited after a few days and that speaks for itself!! I hope (and think) he can step it up in Birmingham.

I coudnt get tickets for uk. sold out straight away. I woudnt expect too much as hes in his 70's now. if your lucky to get to see this show, maybe look upon it as a nostalgic trip? yeah hes marching on a bit now and has had finger surgery, but I was still disappointed at his lack of..erm...enthusiasm?..commitment? or whatever in the clips ive seen. when the song hes playing gets to the solo, he kinda kills any build up. 'child in time' if he kicked off that solo like on record with that machine gun 16th notes [simple playing] and moved a bit....the audience would go fucking crazy! that would show he really wants to play some rock..which alas, looks like he doesn't. bet he cant wait to get back to his hotel room and get out the acoustic! if he does more shows, ill try for a ticket. his souls not in rock anymore though.

I think the saturday show was better then friday. By looking at the clips I think Ritchie and the band was more nervous the first time, being the first concert so quickly with little practice and also there was cameras filming the shows.. Anyway, Romero was really great, really sounded like DIO sometimes and also did good on Child in Time , rest of the band also very good, Jens of course amazing. And Ritchie, he was Ritchie... his improvisation was good I think. They played most songs a bit slower then "usual", more like studio record tempo. Except Man on the Silver mountain.! That they played "too" fast of course! Only Spotlight Kid was too slow. They also opened with Highway Star that was cool. Nice to hear many Deep Purple songs! Also I saw Deep Purple 2 weeks ago in Helsinki, and I think Rainbow did better Some people were expecting way to much I guess, I read some are saying "Ritchie's lost it" and "he's not interested"... Maybe sometimes he looked as if he'd forgot what he was supposed to play.. I think he said earlier in interview that he had to "learn" the songs over again. I say it was a great concert. It could have last longer! Cant wait for more shows, hopefully in northern europe!

Well, as I said the band should have had more rehearsal time. I really hope there will be some more cocerts in order to tighten the band up and for Ritchie to improve his hands/playing if possible. But I doubt there will be any.

I was at the loreley show. Band should have rehearsed a bit more... I believe Blackmore changed the running order and Arrangements on the fly....this was at least the case with smoke on the water and black night.. I knew I wouldn't see rainbow from the nineties or seventies....indeed a nice Nostalgie trip... The singer is great even though Ritchie took him for a ride in some songs... It wasn't his fault that he didn't start singing the 2nd verse in Smoke on the water...he was expecting the solo... Nice show anyway....
BTW....the end of the highway star solo is 16th notes...not triplets!!!

Is there good quality Birmingham clips ? Lots and lots on youtube, just search for them and here's audio someone has posted of the entire show, found on a different forum. I've PM you the link rather than posting it here PlayLoud It seems to be ok as a zip file and splits into the tracks from the show. Will be interesting to compare this to the final DVD if it ever comes out! Could you possibly mail me that link too? Thanks in advance...

I don't think the missing speed is due to his left hand operation....the highway star solo was correct...he just didn't pick 16th notes...only quarter notes... This would suggest an issue with his right hand...Or not enough practice to play it fluidly....which makes sense since he has not played stuff like that in the last 19 years... So no need to practice it.... I don't understand way he played highway star in the first the place...I find that a very odd choice...
That his right hand speed is getting better becomes apparent in Birmingham....he is doing the 16th note run in burn before the worked out part.... Burn is slowed down quite a bit that it's eventually almost the speed as highway star. He could have played the highway star solo correctly...maybe he didn't warm up enough or didn't feel like it...whatever... It was nice to hear him playing a stratocaster with a rock band again....he hasn't lost his tone...and it is not all about speed... I miss the aggression in his playing though....

cemusic that's exactly what I wanted to express ! I also miss his original aggression. You're absolutely right, one doesn't need much speed. Some aggression would compensate the "lack" of speed (which actually isn't necessarily a lack ).
